Science Nobel Prizes, 1945-2009

The author of super-economy blog has calculated the total number of Science Nobel prize awarded using the data available in Wikipedia

He describes his method of calculation in his blog at this web address:
super-economy.blogspot.com

The Table below shows the awards per ten million people in a country

Table Source 2.bp.blogspot.com

The Google visualization api is very powerful to create plots and charts. The resulting code can very easily be converted into an embeddable Google gadgets that can added to any web page on the Internet. The Google gadgets are very useful tool in distributing clean code that can be reused anywhere.

The numbers shown in the table are plotted below show these numbers per 100 million people per country because the Google Data Visualization api for Geomap only accepts whole numbers.

Move mouse over the map to see the actual numbers

The graph shows an interesting trend in the distribution of Nobel prizes across different countries. Northern European countries show up on the top of this list.

It shows that there is substantial growth in the adoption of Internet across the Globe. The rate of adoption at best can be described as phenomenal. No communication and Collaboration technology has ever seen such a fast rate of adoption in the past.

However, the charts showing percent of population only tell part of the story. If one looks at the absolute number of users another picture emerges:

What we find that China leads the pack in the number of online users while US is behind it. China's neighbor India with similar population shows up at number fourth with substantially less number of users online when compared with China.

We all know that communication and collaboration technology is the life blood of culture and that in turn determines the type of society one will have. Therefore, these numbers become indicative of human development across the globe.
